Rift Valley The Rift Valley is the longest valley in the world, a continental fault system that stretches from the Dead Sea to Mozambique. In Kenya, the valley forms a great rift through the middle of the country where a series of lakes were formed many of these lakes are shallow soda lakes which support millions of Kenya's flamingo population. Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa and second largest fresh water lake in the world. The source of frenzied European exploration during the 19th century, this once-elusive lake drains north, its waters carried north by the Nile River more than 4,000 miles to the Mediterranean Sea.
