December-March & June-October

Uganda and Rwanda are both near the Equator. As a result the climate does not change much, this makes both countries all year round destinations. The rainy seasons tend to be from March to April and October to November, but this varies in different areas and it can rain any time of year, especially in the gorilla parks areas. Travel can be slower in the rainy season but the views are often better. Gorilla tracking can be muddier but remains open. In the mountainous areas it is much colder than on the plains and the rainfall is greater. The temperatures on the plains tend to be between 21C and 30C and in the mountainous areas they can go down to 10C in certain months. So our advice is to travel when it is most convenient and usually the rain, which is often for short periods, is part of the great experience. A client may avoid tracking in the "official" rainy season only to find that it pours throughout his visit during another period! For this reason Volcanoes does not close our lodges during the rainy season as they do in savannah countries
Gorilla Trek, Golden Monkey Trek, Community Projects, Visit Local Lakes and Dian Fossey Memorial & Discover Research Center.

The main attraction of Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is its proximity to the Virungas and the Parc National des Volcans where clients trek on foot to see the magnificent Mountain Gorilla – perhaps one of the most dramatic, thrilling and poignant wildlife experiences possible. There are, however, a myriad of other excursions on offer to our clients.

Including treks to see the fascinating and beautiful Golden Monkeys which are found in the bamboo forests on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains and who provide an entertaining viewing as they leap from tree to tree and frolic in the open clearings of the forest.

Other activities on offer include visits to:
- Community projects, basketwork and pottery
- The conservation and socio-economic work of SACOLA and the Rwandese authorities
- The genocide memorials
- The lava flows outside Ruhengeri town
- Lakes Kivu, Burera, Ruhondo and Karago
- Vibrant and colourful local markets and villages
- Areas of interest to ornithologists – Rwanda boasts 670 species
- Dian Fossey memorial and research centre

We believe our clients should spend at least 2 days, in addition to the days on which they go gorilla trekking, exploring and getting to know this hospitable, vibrant and fascinating corner of Africa.
