Year Round

South Africa is a year-round destination, and the best time to visit depends on your priorities. Safaris are best in the winter months (May to August). The grass is lowest, so game viewing is easier, and the temperatures are mild (maximum 20;23C). There is very little winter rainfall in the north. Namaqualand, in the Western and Northern Cape Provinces, becomes a floral phenomenon in spring (mid-August to mid-October), when the desert-like terrain is transformed into a carpet of flowers, drawing thousands of visitors. The best season for the beach is summer (November to mid-March). The southern regions are summer destinations, with low summer rainfall. Temperatures reach 28-30C or higher on truly beautiful days. The warm waters of the east coast make for almost year-round swimming. South Africans tend to take their annual holidays in summer, causing tourist destinations to be overcrowded from mid-December to late January, as well as during the other school holidays.
Exhilarating Walking Safaris, Exceptional African Big Five Game Viewing, Game-Drives in Open 4x4 Vehicles, Excellent Birdwatching and Leopard Research Safaris, Thrilling Beach & Bush Adventures.

Safari activities at Phinda are plentiful. Enjoy game-drives, interpretive bush walks, canoeing on the Mzinene River, White Rhino tracking, or watch the sunrise or sunset whilst enjoying a Mzinene Riverboat Cruise - all at no extra cost. Scuba diving or game fishing in Sodwana Bay, horse riding along the beach or through False Bay Nature Reserve, a breathtaking flight over Maputaland are all safari activities that can be arranged at Phinda at an additional charge.
Local Info

Phinda is situated in the wild and diverse northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa's Zulu Kingdom. One of the nine provinces of South Africa, KwaZulu Natal offers an eclectic mix of cultures, natural and unspoilt scenery, pristine beaches, the splendid Indian Ocean - with its abundant sea-life - as well as good infrastructure and modern cities juxtaposed against rural settlements. KZN (as abbreviated by the locals) is also home to the culturally-rich and facinating history of the Zulu Nation, evident in the many battlefields and historical establishments dotted around this colourful province.
