Australia is an all-year-round destination, but during the summer, December to February, it is hot in Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland. At the Great Barrier Reef, most rain falls in January and February. In northern Queensland and parts of the Northern Territory, roads may flood during the 'green' season, January to March. The ski season takes place during June to October in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. Australia's seasons are the opposite of those of the Northern Hemisphere.

Local Info

A place of extraordinary contrasts, with rugged volcanic peaks, lush forests and serene lagoons, Lord Howe Island is encircled by the southern-most coral reef in the world and was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982. A mere 280 people are lucky enough to call the Island home and to preserve Lord Howe's unique and precious natural environment, visitor numbers are restricted, by law to 400 at any one time. Lord Howe Island and its surrounding islets are the eroded remnants of a large shield volcano that erupted from the ocean floor some 7 million years ago. The majestic Ball's Pyramid - the largest monolithic sea rock in the world - is part of the same undersea ridge called the Lord Howe Rise. At its southern end, is Lord Howe Island's signature twin peaks the astonishing Mt Lidgbird and Mt Gower that rise 875 metres high. This is one of the world's last paradises.

Capella Lodge is Lord Howe-luxury and Lord Howe Island's premium boutique accommodation. Commanding stunning ocean and mountain views the lodge affords a civilised, stylish and sophisticated escape. Capella's contemporary cuisine, first name service, relaxed sophistication and intimate surroundings combine to deliver a unique and exclusive Lord Howe Island experience.
Capella Lodge perches above Lord Howe Island's spectacular Lovers Bay. Its recent $2 million refurbishment has transformed the boutique Lodge into a luscious retreat that carries all the hallmarks of luxurious beachside living. The visual drama is compelling: a cascade of glass plunges dramatically from a skillion roof allowing Lord Howes signature subtropical forests, the towering twin peaks and the jewel-toned reef, to take centre stage. A 'treasure island' of extraordinary contrasts, with rugged volcanic peaks, lush forests, rolling surf and serene lagoons, Lord Howe Island is encircled by the world's southern-most coral reef and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982. With clear views over the Pacific Ocean and the world's southern-most coral reef, Capella Lodge rests above Lord Howe Island's tiny, secret beach at Lover's Bay and at the foot of the imperious twin peaks, Mounts Gower and Lidgbird. Long recognised for its pristine natural heritage, around 75% of the island is permanently preserved as marine park and subtropical rainforest. The Lodges contemporary style and streamlined luxury interiors, awash with muted colours with hints of modern tropical and mariner chic, is beautifully matched with exceptional dining and first name service.
